Have you ever hard about an animal called flying lemur? In Singapore, Malayan flying lemur is observed. While the other species, the Philippine flying lemur (Cynocephalus volans) also exists.
ヒヨケザルという動物をご存じでしょうか。サルというのだから、その1種なのかと思われるかもしれないが、ヒヨケザル目ヒヨケザル科を形成する哺乳類である。
当地シンガポールで観察されるマレーヒヨケザルの他に、フィリピンヒヨケザル(Cynocephalus volans)が存在している。
As you can see, the limbs are connected by like a thin membrane, which is for gliding like a flying squirrel.
It is normally not very active in the daytime, however the individual I met at Rifle Range Link was not like that, licking and cleaning its membrane, and glaring at me.
After observing it for a while, it probably wanted to get away from me, and it went up high in the tree.
Since it became difficult to see, I was about to finish shooting, then the guy began to glide through the trees.
This is actually a rare sight. How wonderful it would have been if I had taken a picture of it!
I have a vivid memory of that sight of a large square crossing the sky without making a sound.
There are occasional sightings in parks, etc., but it’s still only once for me, and I definitely want to meet again.
写真のように手足は薄い膜でつながっており、これはムササビのように空中を滑空するための機構である。
昼間はあまり活動的ではないらしいが、Rifle Range Linkで出会った当個体は活発であり、膜を嘗め回して掃除していたり、私の方を睨みつけたりしていた。暫く観察していると、粘着質な視線を送る私の方から遠ざかりたかったのであろうか、樹上高くに上がっていってしまった。
目視するのも困難になってしまったので、観察を終了しようとしたその瞬間、樹間を滑空し出したである。これはどうやら珍しい光景のようであり、その写真が撮れていたらどんなに素敵だっただろうと思うけれど、大きな正方形が音もたてずにスッと空を横切る光景は、頭の中には鮮明に記憶されている。
公園などで時折目撃例があるが、いまだにその一度きりであり、是非ともまた出会いたい。
