Triton Bay (Mar-25)

It was a truly breathtaking ocean. While every dive gives the new discoveries and moving experiences, Triton Bay is the outstanding sea. It is apart from anything I’ve encountered before. It felt like a place that could reset the senses, which tend to grow dull with experience.

The sheer density of fish, vivid soft corals, ghostly sea fan forests stretched out like something from a dream. I should express the deepest respect and gratitude to those who have worked to preserve this underwater world, all while involving and supporting the local communities.

Even from Singapore, getting to Triton Bay requires three connecting flights followed by a boat ride—it’s remote in every sense. And yet, this is exactly the place I’ve been searching for. A place I know I’ll be returning to time and again. It’s truly special.

The water is tinged with green, and visibility maxes out at around 10 meters on a good day. On paper, that might sound less than ideal. But what unfolds before your eyes underwater is nothing short of majestic and full of mystery.

To be completely honest, part of me doesn’t even want to share this information—I’d rather keep it a secret all to myself.

衝撃的な海でした。どんな海に潜っても新たな発見や感動があるのは確かですが、Triton Bayでの体験は、それらとは一線を画していました。まるで、経験を重ねるうちに鈍ってしまった感性をリセットしてくれるような場所です。

圧倒的な密度でひしめき合う魚たち。色鮮やかなソフトコーラル。幻想的に広がるシラヤギの群生。地元の人々をうまく巻き込みながら、このような海を守り続けてくれている方々には、ただただ敬意と感謝を表するほかありません。

Triton Bayは、私たちの住むシンガポールからであっても、3つのフライトを乗り継ぎ、さらにボートで向かわなければならない僻地にあります。しかし、まさにこここそが、ずっと探し求めていた場所。これからも何度となく訪れずにはいられない、そんな特別な場所です。

水中は緑がかった濁りがあり、透明度も良くて10m程度。言葉だけを聞けば魅力に欠けるように思えるかもしれません。しかしながら、目の前に広がる光景は、荘厳で、神秘に満ちあふれているのです。

正直に言えば、こんな情報は公開せず、自分だけの秘密にしておきたいくらいです。

For the first four days of this trip, I stayed at Triton Bay Divers, enjoying resort-based diving. After that, I boarded a liveaboard departing from Triton Bay, heading toward Misool.

Although the cruise itinerary also included dives in Triton Bay, the most knowledgeable local guides are based at the resort. So during the resort stay, I decided to focus primarily on macro diving.

I’ll be sharing a some of wide-angle shots taken while diving with the resort guides, along with some macro photography as well.

今回の旅程では、最初の4日間をTriton Bay Diversにお世話になり、リゾートベースでダイビングを楽しみました。その後は、Triton Bay発のクルーズに乗り込み、Misoolへと向かいました。

クルーズでもTriton Bayでのダイビングが予定されていましたが、地域に精通したガイドはリゾートに常駐しているため、主にマクロダイビングに集中することにしました。

以下では、リゾートでガイドをしてもらった際に撮影した少しばかりのワイドの写真と、マクロの写真をそれぞれ紹介したいと思います。

The house reef is home to a rich variety of gobies. Among them, I found myself particularly drawn to the Lagoon Shrimp-Goby (Cryptocentrus cyanotaenia), with its metallic vertical and horizontal stripes. (I even came across a paper suggesting they exist in Singapore too!)

Just one minute by boat from the resort, there’s a site where you can witness Flasher Wrasses (Paracheilinus nursalim), and just before sunset, tens of males begin flashing all at once. It’s an absolutely spectacular display.

I was also amazed by both the variety and abundance of pygmy seahorses. A year ago, during my stay in Raja Ampat based out of Kri, they were hard to come by. But here, if you simply locate the right type of gorgonian coral, you can easily find them—even without a guide.

This place is a rare gem where untouched nature still thrives in all its vibrant glory.

ハウスリーフには、ギンガハゼ、カニハゼ、サラサハゼsp、カスリハゼsp、ケショウハゼなどさまざまな種類のハゼが生息しています。なかでもLagoon Shrimp-goby (Cryptocentrus cyanotaenia)には魅かれるものを感じました。メタリックに輝くタテジマとヨコジマが交錯するような模様をしています（なんとシンガポールにもいるという論文を見つけました！）。

そして、リゾートからボートでわずか1分のスポットには、フラッシャーラス（Paracheilinus nursalim）が見られ、日没前になると十数匹のオスが一斉にフラッシングを始めます。その光景はまさに圧巻です。

また、ピグミーシーホースの種類と個体数にも驚かされました。1年前、Kriを拠点にRaja Ampatに滞在していた際には、なかなか見ることができなかったのですが、ここでは該当するヤギを探せば、ガイドなしでも簡単に見つけることができます。

それほどまでに、この場所には手つかずの自然が生き生きと残されているのです。
