Scientific Name: Psilopogon rafflesii
English Name: Red-crowned Barbet
Observed in: Dairy Firm Nature Park
Local Status: Uncommon Resident
Observed Timing: Mar-23

Since catching a glimpse of it on Rifle Range Link in 2022, I hadn’t had a chance to observe it again. Among the three species of Barbet found in this area, it is the least abundant. But in 2023, it chose to build its nest right by a prominent road, drawing birdwatchers from all over Singapore.

The Red-crowned Barbet, with its combination of green, blue, yellow, red, and black, indeed showcases all five colors. While there are various Barbet species with such colors, I believe this particular species has an exceptionally well-balanced and stunning coloration, not just in Singapore but also internationally.
